9/9/2023 0 Comments Kansas city chiefs roster age![]() Offensive lineman Jerome Carvin (Tennessee)ĭeneric Prince is making the team. ![]() ![]() As it gets underway, let’s consider three who could push for a roster spot in 2023. Training camp is always the real proving ground for UDFA rookies. No fewer than nine UDFAs were on the team’s 2022 championship roster - including Andrew Wylie, Jody Fortson, Tershawn Wharton, Shane Buechele, Tommy Townsend and James Winchester. He - along with three-time All-Pro running back Priest Holmes and two-time All-Pro offensive guard Brian Waters - are among the UDFAs who are now enshrined in the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame. Safety Deron Cherry is one of the greatest safeties in Kansas City history. Most of them are signed in the hours after each draft concludes GMs and their staffs must scramble to sign the prospects they want. I am among those who believe that good teams are built through the draft - rather than free agency - so Veach’s recent drafts should play an important role in keeping the team’s championship window open.īut we shouldn’t overlook another source for young talent: draft-eligible players who are not taken in the draft - and are therefore free to sign with any team as undrafted free agents (UDFAs). When West is hot, he’s hot, but otherwise, he doesn’t make much of an impact and that could lead to him playing for another team next year. Now that the Kansas City Chiefs’ general manager Brett Veach has executed some good drafts over the past few years, he has built a young team with just seven players over the age of 30. What I will say works in West’s favor is how he had four total touchdowns last year (two on the ground and two through the air). That year saw West run for 634 yards with five total touchdowns on the season. West wasn’t able to make a big impact last year even with Ware out of the action, which shows that he probably is never going to match his 2015 production again. His numbers have gone down significantly and with the likes of Kerwynn Williams and Damien Williams now behind Kareem Hunt on the depth chart, not to mention Spencer Ware hopefully returning, West is probably in danger of getting cut. While West was once a nice story, he’s proven over the last few years that he’ll never be anything more than a backup in the league. Charcandrick West, a former undrafted standout from Abilene Christian, will be heading into his fifth year with the Chiefs and it’ll be a critical time to prove himself if he wants to remain in Kansas City. This one seems like a no-brainer, as the Chiefs have been adding running backs like crazy this past offseason. VETERANS THAT MIGHT NOT MAKE THE ROSTER – CHARCANDRICK WEST So, without further ado, let’s dive right into the five veteran Chiefs whose roster spot could be in trouble this summer. The draft will bring into question some of these players’ worth as well as the important things like their overall performance and their age and contract situation also. This post will only include veteran players who could be let go before the regular season kicks off in September. ![]() Up next is discussing which members of the Kansas City Chiefs could be in jeopardy of making the team next season. It’s the NFL offseason and that means more speculative posts like these. ![]() Who are some veteran players that are in danger of not making the cut this season?
